Captain Marvel soars in first trailer for Marvel’s latest superhero epic

The universe is in a tricky spot now after Thanos wiped out everyone with the Finger Snap of Doom, and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) will have to help pick up the pieces in AVENGERS 4. But, we have to meet her first, and Marvel’s mightiest hero will be getting her own solo outing first in CAPTAIN MARVEL. Marvel just dropped the first epic trailer this morning, and Larson soars through the sky and kicks alien ass like she was born to it.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, MARVEL centers on former Air Force pilot Carol Danvers, who has been imbued with alien DNA that gives her mighty powers, which she uses to fight evil on a planet far away. She will have had her powers for a bit by the time we meet her in this movie, having been a part of the Kree unit known as Starforce (led by Jude Law’s character). The events of the movie find her back on earth where she has to reconcile the two halves of herself, the alien side and the human side, coming into contact with S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) along the way. Don't worry, she punches a few aliens during this journey of self-discovery, too.

The trailer looks great, for sure, even if it does only tease the bigger elements. But, isn't that enough? I don't need the whole story in one trailer. Throw in a couple more action bits and we would have the perfect amount of footage to hold us over until March. What I love about it is that it gets the point across it's skirting past the whole "how she got her powers angle" and going right into a story about she learns to be a hero. Future trailers will certainly unpack a lot more, but this is a spectacular start.
