A week ago early projections were pointing at the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL looking to snag $100-120 million during its opening weekend, and judging by ticket presales, I'd say that CAPTAIN MARVEL's future is looking very marvelous indeed. Fandango has reported that presales for the film are soaring past previous superhero origin movies such as WONDER WOMAN, AQUAMAN, DEADPOOL, and DOCTOR STRANGE at the same point in their sales cycles. In fact, they added that CAPTAIN MARVEL is currently on pace to become their third top pre-seller among among all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, behind only BLACK PANTHER and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. Not bad.
"'Captain Marvel' has a great ‘90s sci-fi vibe with a tone unlike any other Marvel movie," said Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. "It’s one of the most unique superhero origin stories we’ve ever seen. With surging advance ticket sales, thanks partially to the positive critical reactions from this week’s first screenings, it’s clear that this ‘Cap’ has the right stuff when it comes to moviegoer appeal." Audiences have been eagerly awaiting CAPTAIN MARVEL for quite some time, so finally seeing the hero up on the big-screen should (hopefully) be quite the treat. Plus, getting to discover any potential clues as to how Captain Marvel will factor into the upcoming AVENGERS: ENDGAME certainly won't hurt either.
The first reactions to CAPTAIN MARVEL dropped the other night, and most hailed the film as surprising, fun, and very cosmic, with praise being singled out for Ben Mendelsohn, who plays Talos, and of course, for Brie Larson herself. These types of first reactions are typically always very positive, so be sure to keep that in mind, but I can't wait to find out for myself when CAPTAIN MARVEL hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
