When we next see Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’ll have a new gig, and it’s a mighty impressive one. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige spoke with Entertainment Weekly about all things Marvel earlier today, and while talking about Captain America: New World Order, he mentioned that Ross will be the President of the United States in the movie.

This is certainly a big part for Thaddeus Ross,” Kevin Feige said. “He’s the president of the United States in the film. And with Harrison, you think about Air Force One, and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in Clear and Present Danger. There’s a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we’ll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the president of the United States in a way that is just incredible.” As we know, William Hurt played the role of Ross in the MCU, first appearing in The Incredible Hulk and going on to return in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Black Widow. When William Hurt died last year, Marvel tapped Harrison Ford to replace him.

Getting to work with Harrison Ford has been a dream of Kevin Feige’s for years. “Ever since Jon Favreau cast Harrison Ford in Cowboys and Aliens,” Feige said. “I was always very jealous of that, so to have him finally in the MCU is just incredible. It’s like, I can cross that off the wishlist.Captain America: New World Order will pick up where The Falcon and the Winter Soldier left off, with Sam Wilson taking on the mantle of Captain America. In addition to Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, the film also stars Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, and Xosha Roquemore in a mystery role that is said to be pivotal.

Kevin Feige confirmed that filming on the sequel will begin “relatively soon” under the direction of Julius Onah from a script by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. Captain America: New World Order will be releases on May 3, 2024.
