Captain America was going to fight a giant Nazi robot in first movie

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest movie franchise in the world, but that wasn't always the case. Over a decade ago when the franchise was in the very early stages, no one was quite sure just how these films would be received, which meant that they changed quite a bit in development.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been involved in the MCU since the beginning when they signed on to write Captain America: The First Avenger. The film recently celebrated its tenth anniversary, and the two writers spoke with Yahoo! about the development of the script and some of the big changes that happened. One such change involved a "huge Hydra robot" that Captain America (Chris Evans) faced off against. "A large chunk of the third act was Cap fighting this robot," Markus said, revealing that the Nazi super robot was called Panzermax and was under the control of Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). At the end of the day, Panzermax got the axe. "I think eventually it was a budget and time time," Markus explained. "Where it was like, 'We really can't be spending that much time.'" As much as I would have loved to have seen Cap fighting a giant Nazi robot, they probably made a good choice cutting that bit out of the script.

The two writers also commented on the popular fan theory that Steve Rogers was a virgin until he decided to stay in the past at the end of Avengers: Endgame. That's not something McFeely and Markus believe. "I think he loses his virginity!" McFeely said. "Why do people think he's a virgin?" The writer added that Steve likely got up to more than we think during his USO Tours in the first movie. "If you look like that, and you’re going to city to city, and you’re signing autographs for the likes of the ladies that he’s signing the autographs for, I’ve got to imagine that [he lost his virginity]," McFeely explained. There you have it.
