Captain America 4 has found a director in Julius Onah

THR has reported that Captain America 4 has found a director. Julius Onah, best known for The Cloverfield Paradox, has been tapped to helm the fourth installment of the franchise for Marvel Studios.

Anthony Mackie will be starring in Captain America 4 after the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Sam Wilson taking on the mantle of Captain America. It’s not clear when production on Captain America 4 would begin, but the script is set to be penned by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier creator Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson.

Plot details are obviously being kept under wraps at this point, but the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have left a number of threads which could be picked up. Sebastian Stan could very well return as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, as could Wyatt Russell as John Walker, the man who briefly held the mantle of Captain America before being recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) to become U.S. Agent. One person who likely won’t be taking part in Captain America 4 is Chris Evans. The actor hung up the shield after the events of Avengers: Endgame and recently said that returning to the role again would be a tall order.

I don’t want to disappoint anybody but it’s tough to… It was such a good run and I’m so happy with it. It’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to rattle something that is, again, so, so dear to me. That role means so much to me. So, to revisit it, it would be a tall order.

In addition to The Cloverfield Paradox, Julius Onah is also known for directing and co-writing Luce, a social thriller based on the play by J.C. Lee. The film stars Naomi Watts and Tim Roth as a couple who are forced to reconsider their marriage and family after an extremely disturbing essay written by their adopted son (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) is brought to their attention by his teacher (Octavia Spencer). What do you think of Julius Onah being tapped as the director of Captain America 4?
