The 90's weren't known for producing many great horror films, at least that's what some people say. I disagree to the point where I feel I could write a book celebrating 90's horror, but that's beside the point at the moment. What I'm getting at is although many would argue the 90's was a wasteland for horror, all fans can agree one of the major shining lights is director Bernard Rose's take on Clive Barker's CANDYMAN.
And if you're as much of a fan as I am of the film based on The Forbidden then you'll be excited to hear that the Candyman himself Tony Todd took to Twitter the other day to let a fellow fan know that there are (evidently) plans for the classic 90's horror flick to hit Blu-ray with an all-new 4k restoration!
You can check out Tony Todd's tweet below for confirmation, but even still, this is all merely rumor at this point. Sure, I'm thinking Mr. Todd would know if these were the official plans, but if we've learned anything as horror fans, it's that even the best laid official plans can go to utter shit in the blink of an undead eye.
The film follows
Skeptical graduate student Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) who befriends Anne-Marie McCoy (Vanessa Williams) while researching superstitions in a housing project on Chicago's Near North Side. From Anne-Marie, Helen learns about the Candyman (Tony Todd), a knife-wielding figure of urban legend that some of her neighbors believe to be responsible for a recent murder. After a mysterious man matching the Candyman's description begins stalking her, Helen comes to fear that the legend may be all too real.
We'll make sure to keep you guys up-to-date on this CANDYMAN 4K Blu-ray one way or the other. Stay tuned!
