Having celebrated its one year anniversary with an episode on Sleepaway Camp last month, the video series Real Slashers is now back with an episode that looks at the classic Candyman (watch it HERE)! This is a film that is celebrating a major anniversary of its own this year, as 2022 happens to be the thirtieth anniversary of its initial release. To find out what we had to say about Candyman thirty years down the line, check out the video embedded above!
Written and directed by Bernard Rose, Candyman was based on a short story by Clive Barker that was called The Forbidden. The film has the following synopsis:
Skeptical graduate student Helen Lyle befriends Anne-Marie McCoy while researching superstitions in a housing project on Chicago’s Near North Side. From Anne-Marie, Helen learns about the Candyman, a knife-wielding figure of urban legend that some of her neighbors believe to be responsible for a recent murder. After a mysterious man matching the Candyman’s description begins stalking her, Helen comes to fear that the legend may be all too real.
Candyman stars Virginia Madsen, Xander Berkeley, Kasi Lemmons, Vanessa Estelle Williams, Carolyn Lowery, DeJuan Guy, Gilbert Lewis, and Ted Raimi, with Tony Todd as the title character.
Here’s what Real Slashers is all about:
Ahhh the 80’s. A simpler time where the blood ran red, the boobies swung freely, and the weed was copiously smoked. A time where rampant killers were simply excuses for excessive sex and over the top murder. Yes, we’re looking at an era where the slasher movie ran wild over cinemas everywhere. Today, we’re looking at “Real Slashers.”
The show is Written, Narrated, and Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
