Four weeks ago, Hulu released a teaser trailer for the true crime mini-series Candy… and now they have already released a full trailer, which you can check out in the embed above. Starring Jessica Biel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as the title character, Candy tells the story of Texas housewife Candy Montgomery, who killed her friend Betty Gore with an axe in 1980. Candy claimed that she struck Betty with that axe forty-one times in self-defense, but some found that difficult to believe. This mini-series is set to premiere on the Hulu streaming service on Monday, May 9th. That premiere kicks off a five-night event, leading up to the finale on Friday, May 13th.

Michael Uppendahl directed the first episode of Candy from a script by Robin Veith. The mini-series has the following synopsis:

Candy Montgomery is a 1980 housewife and mother who did everything right—good husband, two kids, nice house, even the careful planning and execution of transgressions—but when the pressure of conformity builds within her, her actions scream for just a bit of freedom. With deadly results.

Biel and Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), who plays Betty Gore, are joined in the cast by Timothy Simons (Veep), Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black), and Raúl Esparza (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit). Elisabeth Moss had originally been attached to play Candy, but had to pass the role over to Biel due to scheduling issues.

Candy comes to us from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and 20th Television, one of the Disney Television Studios. Veith, Uppendahl, and Biel serve as executive producers alongside Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, and Michelle Purple. Jim Atkinson and John Bloom will serve as consulting producers, as they wrote a book about the Candy Montgomery case called Evidence of Love: A True Story of Passion and Death in the Suburbs, and also published articles on the case in Texas Monthly. Those articles were titled Love & Death in Silicon Prairie.

John Bloom is also known as legendary movie host Joe Bob Briggs.

The Candy teaser trailer that was released last month can be seen below. I’m going to be watching this show for sure. Are you?
