Cameron Crowe and Mark Wahlberg may collaborate on the drama Beautiful Boy

Cameron Crowe is currently working on his Hawaii set comedy previously titled DEEP TIKI but is already working on his follow-up based on the book BEAUTIFUL BOY. Based on the book of the same name by David Sheff, BEAUTIFUL BOY is a memoir about dealing with his son’s crystal meth addiction. The son, Nic Sheff, wrote his own memoir titled TWEAK. The two books take different perspectives on the same story and offer a very unique look into how drugs can affect a family.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wahlberg made mention of BEAUTIFUL BOY:

“I’ve met with Cameron Crowe about possibly doing that.”

These days, it is hard to know for sure which direction Wahlberg is going since he acts (TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, LONE SURVIVOR), produces (ENTOURAGE, BOARDWALK EMPIRE), and a heck of a lot more. Wahlberg is at the stage in his career where I could see him playing the father in BEAUTIFUL BOY if he does take a role. Crowe hasn’t worked on a straight drama in quite some time so this would be a change of pace from his last few films. I read TWEAK and it is a very depressing look at addiction. As a parent, I haven’t brought myself to read BEAUTIFUL BOY yet, but it sounds like an interesting movie.
