If you thought that remakes were limited to classic films of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, you were wrong… dead wrong. Remakes are coming at us from all decades, and according to The Risky Business Blog, Universal and Imagine Entertainment are bringing THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN back to the big screen in an all-new remake!
They’re getting closer to the whole idea behind remakes with this one, though they haven’t nailed it quite yet. See, BRIDE is from 1935, which is the perfect amount of time for a remake (70+ years); however, they picked a movie that’s seen as a classic, and therefore, there’s no reason to remake it. They gotta pick a crappy movie from the 30s to remake otherwise, what’s the point? But they’re close!
According to the blog, Neil Burger, the director of THE ILLUSIONIST, has been tapped to helm BRIDE, based on the script he wrote with Dirk Wittenborn. This apparently isn’t the first time a BRIDE remake has tried to make it to the big screen, but those other opportunities fell through for one reason or other, and so… here we are.
The original 1935 film went a little like this: Dr. Frankenstein and his monster both turn out to be alive, not killed as previously believed. Dr. Frankenstein wants to get out of the evil experiment business, but when a mad scientist, Dr. Pretorius, kidnaps his wife, Dr. Frankenstein agrees to help him create a new creature, a woman, to be the companion of the monster.
We’ve seen a ton of other FRANKENSTEIN movies over the years, but only one other BRIDE that probably only a handful of people saw anyway when it was released in 1985 called THE BRIDE, starring Sting and Jennifer Beals.
While this isn’t officially official, the blog is a child of The Hollywood Reporter, so I’m gonna give it the benefit of the doubt and say this shit is legit. Another BRIDE movie is on the way… now the question is, will it be a period piece like THE WOLF MAN? Or contemporized? And even more so, who will play Frankenstein, the good Doctor, and the Bride??? Stick around as we find out more…
