False alarm, folks. A week ago, it was announced that SINISTER 2 would be jumping ship from its original release date in August to a more comfortable time a week later. However, the film has returned to its original release on August 21, 2015. The reason for this unnecessarily confusing switcheroo remains unknown, but it's not exactly reassuring. Late summer releases aren't generally the stuff of box office gold (though quality is another question – late summer of 2013 saw both THE WORLD'S END and YOU'RE NEXT) and messing with the dates this close to release doesn't betray a lot of confidence.
I think SINISTER 2 has every chance of being better than the original if it embraces the Bughuul mythos and focuses more on being a tight shocker instead of a trope-fueled paranormal flick, but this release date hemming and hawing has me worried. At any rate, we'll get what we get soon enough, and it looks like the summer of Blumhouse will be finishing off with a bang either way!
In SINISTER 2:
A young mother and her twin sons move into a rural house that's marked for death.
Directed by Ciaran Foy and written by original director Scott Derrickson as well as C. Robert Cargill, SINISTER 2 stars Shannyn Sossamon, James Ransone, Nicholas King, Dartanian Sloan, Robert Daniel Sloan and Lucas Jade Zumann.
