Earlier this year, author Joe R. Lansdale released a prequel novel to his 1994 novella BUBBA HO-TEP (which became a film directed by Don Coscarelli and starring Bruce Campbell in 2002) that was titled BUBBA AND THE COSMIC BLOOD-SUCKERS. That story is now getting the comic book treatment from IDW, with Lansdale writing the series with Joshua Jabcuga.
The BUBBA HO-TEP AND THE COSMIC BLOOD-SUCKERS comic book series has the following synopsis:
President Richard Nixon has uncovered a potential threat from beyond the stars, but there’s only one man who could possibly safeguard the world as we know it: Elvis Aron Presley.
The series is being illustrated by Todd Galusha, with Baldemar Rivas providing cover art.
Lansdale explains that comic books are the medium that inspired him to become a writer in the first place, and that he is
…excited and looking forward to readers discovering (this BUBBA HO-TEP background story) all in color and looking fine."
If COSMIC BLOOD-SUCKERS sells well, Lansdale is hoping the story of his monster-fighting vision of Elvis will continue on through more comics:
May more Bubba comics burst into existence and give the world the true story of how the world has been protected from evil, and for quite some time. Thank goodness these defenders are out there, working in the shadows."
BUBBA HO-TEP AND THE COSMIC BLOOD-SUCKERS will hit store shelves in March, and this is a book that I will definitely be adding to my subscription list.
