I know you're all clamoring for some updates on the PETE'S DRAGON remake that's shooting in New Zealand soon, so here's the skinny: A month ago we reported that Robert Redford was in talks to join the picture, taking the role of the "crazy old man" who tells tales of a dragon in the forest. If you recall, this remake would be set against the backdrop of loggers cutting down a forest where Elliot the dragon lives, and has been raising the titular Pete (Oakes Fegley) ever since the kid's parents died in a car accident. Now we have word that Bryce Dallas Howard is being sought to play a forest ranger who finds the boy and is a bit skeptical regarding his stories about a dragon. Will she believe him come the end credits? Will the loggers be stopped from cutting down the forest? Time will tell!
I can't say that I remember much of the original PETE'S DRAGON, despite assurances from my mother that I used to watch it all the time as a kid. Regardless, it's been over 20 years since I've seen the flick so who's to say whether or not a remake is deserved. Regardless, it's coming and at the very least director David Lowery (AIN'T THEM BODIES SAINTS) is rounding up some talent to play a part. If they were to hire Benedict Cumberbatch to do the voice, I doubt many would complain.
There are implications here . . .
