Bryan Cranston would love to play a “nasty” Marvel villain

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Marvel's ever expanding cinematic universe has accomplished a great many things; populating its cast with charismatic actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson, introducing audiences to lesser known heroes, and successfully crafting a shared universe which has spawned numerous imitators. However, one aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still falling short, their villains. Sure, they're as well cast as their heroic counterparts but with the exception of Loki (Tom Hiddleston), almost all of Marvel's cinematic villains have failed to make an impression.

Marvel will undoubtedly continue hiring talented individuals to portray their upcoming slate of villains, and one such individual has thrown his hat into the ring; Bryan Cranston spoke with Metro UK and revealed that he'd love to play "some big superhero villain in some Marvel classic." However, he did have one condition, he'd like that super-villain to be an original creation and not a pre-existing Marvel villain. Cranston did promise that whomever he played would be particularly "nasty."

As great as it would be to see Bryan Cranston sink his teeth into a Marvel role, I would hate for his talents to be wasted like so many MCU villain actors before him. Marvel has spent two phases developing their heroes into compelling characters, maybe it's time to focus that attention on villains who aren't Loki. Our own Paul Shirey addressed Marvel's ongoing villain problem this summer and offered up a few suggestions on how to fix it; check that article out right here.

He may be more interested in playing a completely original character, but is there an existing Marvel villain which Bryan Cranston would be a good fit for?
