Despite rumors that he may play Lex Luthor in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, Bryan Cranston has lined up his first post-BREAKING BAD role as blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in the Jay Roach directed biopic TRUMBO. The biopic is looking to shoot in 2014 which would put it at odds with Zack Snyder‘s MAN OF STEEL sequel. Not impossible, but it isn’t looking likely for Cranston to play the bald-headed nemesis to Superman.
Dalton Trumbo is best known for the screenplays ROMAN HOLIDAY, SPARTACUS, EXODUS, and many other films. TRUMBO will focus on the hardships faced by the acclaimed writer.
Trumbo was the highest paid screenwriter in the world when, in 1950, he was sent to prison for refusing to answer the questions of Congress’ infamous House UnAmerican Activities Committee. Rebellious even after his release, Trumbo became the movies’ most prolific blacklisted writer, secretly writing such classics as Roman Holiday and winning two Academy Awards — under fake names.
We have all learned from BREAKING BAD that Bryan Cranston is a really damn good actor and playing the lead in TRUMBO should be the first in a long line of parts that bring his talents to light for more audiences, including those voting for Oscars and Golden Globes. Cranston deserves a long and illustrious career after embodying Walter White for five seasons. Hopefully TRUMBO is that first role.
