Didn't Bruce Willis learn anything from SURROGATES? Androids are bad news! They can't be trusted and something something Isaac Asimov. Regardless, the first trailer for VICE starring Willis has arrived and it has a few familiar concepts from other movies holding it together. THE PURGE and WESTWORLD for starters and just about every other movie tackling the A.I. run amuck gimmick are present here.
Here's the official synopsis for VICE:
Julian Michaels (Bruce Willis) has designed the ultimate resort: VICE, where anything goes and the customers can play out their wildest fantasies with artificial inhabitants who look, think and feel like humans. When an artificial (Ambyr Childers) becomes self-aware and escapes, she finds herself caught in the crossfire between Julian’s mercenaries and a cop (Thomas Jane) who is hell-bent on shutting down Vice, and stopping the violence once and for all.
It's not going to be a winner for Willis, we can all agree on that. Still, it might actually have some entertaining value hidden within the disposable story. I would like to think Willis has a lot more to give us in terms of worthwhile movies; he was great in LOOPER, so science fiction can work for him. I think he just has to be pickier with the material so not to become a Nicholas Cage scenario. Or is it too late?
VICE hits theaters and On Demand on January 16th 2014 and also stars Ambyr Childers, Thomas Jane, Johnathon Schaech, Bryan Greenberg, Charlotte Kirk, and Tyler J. Olson.
