Bruce Greenwood joins the cast of The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep

After starring in GERALD'S GAME for director Mike Flanagan, it seems that Bruce Greenwood is set to reunite with the director for another Stephen King project. Deadline reports that Greenwood has joined the cast of DOCTOR SLEEP, a sequel to THE SHINING which follows a now adult Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor) who finds himself struggling with the same issues which plagued his father all those years ago.

The exact nature of Bruce Greenwood's role is being kept under wraps, but it's been said that he's playing a character by the name of Dr. John. Chances are that you've seen Bruce Greenwood in something over the years, as the actor has appeared in movies like DOUBLE JEOPARDY, THIRTEEN DAYS, I, ROBOT, CAPOTE, STAR TREK, and THE POST, as well as TV shows such as St. Elsewhere, John from Cincinnati, Mad Men, The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and The Resident. In addition to Ewan McGregor, DOCTOR SLEEP also stars Rebecca Ferguson (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT) as Rose the Hat, Kyliegh Curran (I CAN I WILL I DID) as Abra Stone, Carl Lumbly (Supergirl) as Dick Halloran, Alex Essoe (STARRY EYES) as Wendy Torrance, and Zahn McClarnon (Westworld) as Crow Daddy.

After spending years embodying his father's legacy of anger and alcoholism as he was haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel, DOCTOR SLEEP finds Danny Torrance finally settling down in a small town where he quits drinking. Getting a job at a nursing home, Danny uses his abilities to ease the passing of the terminally ill, all while forming a telepathic bond with Abra Stone, a young girl whose shining is growing more and more powerful. It's then that Danny and Abra become aware of a group of quasi-immortal people known as the True Knot who travel across America living off of the "stream" that children with the shining produce as they are slowly tortured to death. Charming. With Abra now targeted by the True Knot, Danny's own demons are reignited as he battles for the survival of Abra's soul.

DOCTOR SLEEP is set for a January 24, 2020 release.
