Bruce Campbell talks Evil Dead remake, explains why there’s no Ash

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Expect plenty of this “Bruce Campbell talks EVIL DEAD remake” stuff for the next year or two; I’m sure we’ll be getting a lot of it up until – and after – the remake is actually released.

Campbell was recently interviewed by TV Guide and, naturally, the EVIL DEAD remake reared its demonic head. You’ll have to sit through about two minutes of “Burn Notice” talk, or you can just read this transcription below, as Bruce discusses the decision not to have an Ash character in the film:

“We are going to remake it, the original. People are a little iffy about that. We wanted to remake a movie that would have better effects, we’re better at telling stories now, and so we found a young filmmaker, Fede Alvarez, who is from Uruguay who is going to direct the thing, and there’s no Ash character in it. That pisses people off, cuz like ‘How can you have Evil Dead without Ash?’ We didn’t want to have the direct comparison. You put Ash and all those characters in it, ‘oh that guy was okay.’ I wouldn’t want to put an actor in that position.”

When asked if he’ll be making a cameo, Campbell admits he doesn’t know, but wonder if he might be suited as “the old farmer”. Check it below.
