Last month Bruce Campbell made some comments at the Wizard World Comic-Con that made it sound like he was onboard for a sequel to ARMY OF DARKNESS. Many thought he was being sarcastic, but Fede Alvarez tweeted a week later that Sam Raimi will be directing the sequel, so it seemed pretty legit.
Unfortunately, Bruce Campbell wasn't actually confirming another Ash adventure with his comments, and when the actor was asked about a sequel to ARMY OF DARKNESS by Shock Till You Drop, he blamed the internet for the "misinformation."
"It's not news. Let me dispel that right now. It's all internet B.S. There's no reality whatsoever. These random comments slip out of either my mouth, or Sam Raimi's mouth, next thing you know we're making a sequel. So, unless it's announced from like Renaissance Pictures, it's not real. Or unless you have a start date, or release date. We do appreciate people's enthusiasm for another ARMY OF DARKNESS, but they should just wait until it's real. And I feel bad for people, because the internet is so prey to misinformation, it's unbelievable how much misinformation there is. So, I just encourage everybody get the real information, not just if you heard something."
Aw, you can't blame the internet for running with the words that came out of your mouth Mr. Campbell. He must know how rabid some fans are for another ARMY OF DARKNESS, and saying there will be a sequel (even jokingly) was sure to get notice, especially with Fede Alvarez tweeting about it so soon after he had made those comments.
Speaking of Alvarez, Bruce Campbell did confirm that the director will not be back for a sequel to last year's EVIL DEAD remake while talking to Shock Till You Drop. Campbell was also asked if he would ever want to be a character in a Marvel zombies movie since Ash is in several of the comics.
"I will never play the character Ash for any other director other than Sam Raimi. So if he directs it, let's go. If he doesn't, see you later."
I know it's disappointing that ARMY OF DARKNESS 2 isn't happening right now, but I do feel like someday Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell will bring Ashley James Williams back to the big screen.
