Tracking Board is reporting that Sony is developing a female-led 21 JUMP STREET spinoff, and Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs have been hired to write the script. Aniello also directed several episodes of the Comedy Central series, and Downs has appeared on it as Abbi's boss, Trey. The duo also wrote and directed the short films Emmy Training Day and Life After Emmy.
TB doesn't have any additional details about the project, but the site does say the screenplay will be based on the tone of the previous Jump Street movies.
I'm not saying it won't work, but with a 22 JUMP STREET sequel in the works and talks of a possible Jump Street/Men In Black crossover film, do we really need a female spinoff? And did Sony not see the negative reaction to Paul Feig's all-female GHOSTBUSTERS? With Channing Tatum and Anthony and Joe Russo also developing a GHOSTBUSTERS reboot, perhaps Sony should just combine all three franchises. However, I doubt many of you are down for GHOSTBUSTERS & MIB OF JUMP STREET.
Who would you like to see play the leads in the 21 JUMP STREET spinoff?
