A docuseries chronicling the life and ultimately tragic death of Brittany Murphy is in the works at HBO Max. The actress, who passed away unexpectedly in 2009, will be the subject of a two-part documentary series from Blumhouse Television and Pyramid Productions.
The docuseries is being described as a "character portrait" of the young actress's quick career rise and mysterious end. For those unfamiliar with Murphy's passing, the actress was just 32 years old when she fell ill at the home she shared with her husband Simon Monjack and her mother, Sharon. Murphy ultimately passed away and the coroner chalked it up to pneumonia, which many found strange since she was so young. An iron-deficiency and the legal prescription drugs found in her system were said to be secondary factors. Five months later her husband was also found dead under similar circumstances at the age of 40. A lot of conspiracy theories emerged after these events with many believing something more sinister was at hand. HBO Max is saying that the series will "go beyond the conspiracy theories and headlines" concerning Murphy's death.
The docuseries is set to feature new interviews with those closest to the late actress as well as previously unseen archival footage. There are many lingering questions surrounding Murphy's death and HBO Max is hoping the series will shed some late on what happened the last day of her life.
"Our Brittany Murphy documentary cuts through the tabloid noise with an elevated, nuanced depiction of a sensational story. Crafting a grounded account of Brittany Murphy's life struggles and sudden passing comes with great responsibility and we've partnered with a masterful creative team to produce a thoughtful examination of a tragedy that has long been cause for speculation."
Brittany Murphy was a fan favorite actress that was truly on the rise. She first came to public attention playing Tai Frasier in the classic '90s comedy Clueless. From there, Murphy starred in a string of projects that showcased her dramatic and comedic chops that included Girl, Interrupted, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Don't Say A Word, 8 Mile, Just Married, and Sin City. Murphy also voiced Luanne Platter on all 13 seasons of the hit animated series King of the Hill. There is no word yet when the Brittany Murphy docuseries will premiere but I'm sure it will be a fascinating look into a life that was cut tragically short.
