While director James Wan's next horror project is still cloaked in secrecy and shadow, it's recently been revealed by Variety that British actor George Young will star as the male lead of the mysterious project. Tentatively titled "Silvercup," Young is the second actor known to be starring in the film, after it was previously announced that Annabelle Wallis (PEAKY BLINDERS, BOSS LEVEL) will also help lead THE CONJURING creator's latest fright-filled flick.
Much like the film itself, Young's character details are being kept tightly under wraps at this time. According to sources, Wan is looking to embrace the film's production this fall, before returning to the high seas for DC's AQUAMAN sequel starring Jason Momoa as the aquatic avenger.
Wan says that he and Ingrid Bisu worked alongside one another when coming up with the story, which he plans to produce via his Atomic Monster studio with Michael Clear.
As for Young, "Silvercup" will serve as his first major role. Previously, Young starred as Dr. Victor Cannerts for the CONTAINMENT television series, which centers on an epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta, leaving the large city quarantined and those stuck on the inside fighting for their lives. Another notable role of Young's is his part as Charles for HBO Asia's miniseries GRACE. The aforementioned horror series tells the story of a family man who succumbs to weakness and how his failure to live a moral life condemns those he loves to an unspeakable horror. Only his path to redemption can save them. Dun dun dunnn!
Now that casting for major roles is clearly underway, I wouldn't be surprised if more details related to "Silvercup" are dropped on us sooner rather than later. Hailed by many as a master of modern day horror, Wan is known for cooking up films that are dark, dreadful, and everything in between. It should be interesting to see what his puzzling premise turns out to be, once all is revealed.
