For me, busy means having to run one errand at the store all before calling it quits for the day. Then there are crazy people like Brie Larson who on top of being cast in Marvel’s first solo, female-driven flick, CAPTAIN MARVEL, she also has the action spectacle KONG: SKULL ISLAND due out next year, and THE GLASS CASTLE with SHORT TERM 12 director Destin Daniel Cretton and FREE FIRE with Cillian Murphy and Armie Hammer in production. Now, mixed in with all that, she is set to make her full-length movie directorial debut with the new film UNICORN STORE. Why would someone do all this to themselves? Why!?
The Hollywood Reporter got the scoop that the very, very busy Oscar-winning actress is taking over the indie comedy from previous director, Miguel Arteta, which Rebel Wilson was also set to star in. Due to timing both had to drop out, which made room for Larson. She will also star in the flick, an original movie from writer Samantha McIntyre about a woman named Kit (Larson, presumably) who goes to work at a store, and learns the real meaning of maturity along the way.
Though this is Larson’s first major directorial effort, she is not new to the game. She directed and co-wrote a short film called THE ARM, which won the jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012.
No word yet on when the movie will come out, or who else will star, but based on how much else Larson is doing, chances are she will just do all the other parts too—like Eddie Murphy in NUTTY PROFESSOR. Ah, who am I kidding, she would probably nail all those parts too. But if you’re listening, Brie Larson, we need you to save your strength! Who else will save us from Thanos? Ant-Man?
Brie Larson will star in KONG: SKULL ISLAND with Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Mitchell, Corey Hawkins and more set for March 10, 2017.
