Brie Larson on the pressures of getting Captain Marvel right

Beyond a few rumours, we hadn't heard all that much about the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL, but that all changed at San Diego Comic-Con when a few juicy tidbits were revealed, namely that the film would take place in the 1990's and would feature Carol Danvers facing off against the Skrulls. Exciting stuff, but there's still the matter of getting the film made, and Brie Larson recently told Entertainment Weekly that although she's feeling the pressure, the enthusiastic response has made things a little easier.

It feels like such a weight off my shoulders because I really don’t like keeping secrets. And the response was really positive, and that felt really cool. I mean, making movies is hard, and making films of that size is even harder. It requires so much physically, and it’s a lot longer shoot, and there’s also the pressure because this is a character that is incredibly inspiring to people and means a lot. So you just want to get it right. I feel really excited about how everything is shaping up.

Although Brie Larson may be feeling the squeeze when it comes to bringing a character people love to the big-screen, she's not feeling anything of the sort when it comes to starring in the first female-led movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When asked by Entertainment Tonight if she thought that the success of WONDER WOMAN was putting any pressure on her when it comes to box-office glory, Larson asked, "Why is there pressure?" The CAPTAIN MARVEL actress added that she doesn't understand "why there's pressure put on women as if it's the most shocking concept ever that a woman can open a movie — it's like, it's kind of a tired concept. We've proven it for a long time, so I don't put pressure on in that way at all." Exactly right.

In addition to Brie Larson, CAPTAIN MARVEL will also star Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and as the film will be taking place in the 90's, Fury will be seen without his famous eye-patch. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (MISSISSIPPI GRIND) will be directing the film and production will reportedly begin early next year. CAPTAIN MARVEL is set for a March 8, 2019 release.
