Bridgerton seasons 3 & 4 are coming to Netflix

Netflix won't be parting ways with their hit Regency-era series, Bridgerton, anytime soon. It has been announced that the streamer has handed out an early renewal to the series for seasons 3 and 4.

Like most Bridgerton announcements, the news was delivered via Lady Whistledown, the character narrated by Julie Andrews on the series and who is also the pen-name of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Production is currently underway on season 2 of the show which is based on Julia Quinn's popular novels. Bridgerton made news last week when it was announced that breakout star from the series, Regé-Jean Page, would not be returning for season 2. The actor signed a one-year deal to appear on the show but was then “offered an opportunity to return as a guest star in three to five episodes of season two — at a rate of $50,000 an episode — but declined." Page's notoriety has increased significantly since the success of Bridgerton and he has been offered a slew of film roles, including a role in the Dungeons & Dragons film adaptation and The Gray Man from the directing duo The Russo Brothers. He is also becoming a big name in the running to be the next James Bond with the odds of him landing the role improving week after week.

It should come as no surprise that the series, from mega-producer Shonda Rhimes, will be sticking around on the platform. By the end of its first 30 days on Netflix, it was watched by 63 million households and it quickly became a water-cooler show for fans who just couldn't get enough of its intriguing mix of period drama, scandal, and sex. Rhimes had this to say about the two-season renewal for the series:

"From the first time I read Julia Quinn’s delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience. But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team. This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience."

Season one of Bridgerton is based on the first book of Julia Quinn's "Bridgerton" series, "The Duke and I." The drama of season one has captivated those at home who began binging the show like crazy and they became completely hooked on the romance between the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), and the Duke of Hastings Simon Bassett (Regé-Jean Page). Quinn's novels run across eight entries and creator Chris Van Dusen has stated that each book will likely become a season on Netflix. Season two will focus on Kate Sheffield, whose romance opposite Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) is featured in the book, "The Viscount Who Loved Me."
