It doesn't seem like many of you are too high on Chris Columbus' upcoming PIXELS starring Adam Sandler, however it does have a few things going for it. It's based on Patrick Jean's excellent 2010 short film about video game characters attacking New York, and it will also star Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad and Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage. Ok, so I could do without Kevin James, but the rest of the cast is pretty solid.
THR has learned Brian Cox has joined PIXELS as well, and he will be playing a military leader named Admiral Porter. In PIXELS, aliens believe video feeds from classic video games are a declaration of war, and attack the Earth in a similar style. To battle the invasion, the U.S. President (Kevin James) recruits a group of video game experts, including his childhood best friend (Adam Sandler). Production on PIXELS will likely being in Toronto sometime this month.
PIXELS certainly sounds interesting, but I'm really hoping there will be less toilet humor and more actual jokes in Adam Sandler's new movie, unlike some of the actor's most recent films.
PIXELS is scheduled to be released on May 15, 2015.
