Breitenbush: Scary Movie’s Regina Hall to star in new horror comedy

Among the sixty screen acting roles Regina Hall has racked up over the last couple decades are appearances in four of the five films in the Scary Movie horror spoof franchise. Now The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Hall is returning to horror comedy territory, signing on to star in writer/director Jim Strouse’s Breitenbush.

Hall will be taking on the role of aspiring district attorney Kate, who, after her husband vanishes on a camping trip during which everyone ingests a powerful hallucinogen and summons an angry prehistoric creature, must return to the site of the ill-fated trip with her friends to face the forces that led to his disappearance.

Hall will also be producing Breitenbush with her producing partner Tom Heller through their company Rh Negative Entertainment banner, as well as Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman of Yale Entertainment. Yale’s sales division Great Escape will be presenting the project to potential buyers at the European Film Market.

Levine and Beckerman provided the following statement: “We’re thrilled to be announcing our latest Yale Entertainment project. Jim and Regina are at the top of the list of people who we’ve wanted to collaborators with, and this script is so unique and fun — we’re so excited to get this into production.

Strouse previously directed the drama Grace Is Gone, the sports comedy The Winning Season, the rom-com People Places Things, and the comedy The Incredible Jessica James. He and Hall previously worked together on People Places Things.

In addition to the four Scary Movies, Hall’s credits include the Best Man films and TV series, Love & Basketball, Ally McBeal, The Honeymooners, First Sunday, Superhero Movie, Law Abiding Citizen, Death at a Funeral, Law & Order: LA, About Last Night, Think Like a Man and Think Like a Man Too, Vacation, Barbershop: The Next Cut, When the Bough Breaks, Girls Trip, Support the Girls, The Hate U Give, Shaft, Nine Perfect Strangers, Master, Me Time, and Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.

Hall is always fun to watch and Breitenbush sounds promising to me – I like the sound of the threat being an “angry prehistoric creature” – so I’m looking forward to this one. Are you interested in Breitenbush? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
