After years of rumours, it was announced just days ago that we would be returning to the world of THE MATRIX for a fourth installment of the franchise. Lana Wachowski is returning to helm the film, this time without Lilly Wachowski, and both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are slated to reprise their roles of Neo and Trinity.

As for who will shoot the movie for Wachowski, it's been reported that cinematographer John Toll is currently in negotiations to join the project. Toll, who won back-to-back Oscars for his work on LEGENDS OF THE FALL and BRAVEHEART, is also known for THE THIN RED LINE, ALMOST FAMOUS, VANILLA SKY, THE LAST SAMURAI, GONE BABY GONE, TROPIC THUNDER, IRON MAN 3, and BILLY LYNN'S LONG HALFTIME WALK. This also won't be his first collaboration with Lana Wachowski, as Toll worked on CLOUD ATLAS, JUPITER ASCENDING, as well as the Wachowski's Sense8 series for Netflix, on which he also served as executive producer. The original three movies in THE MATRIX trilogy were lensed by Bill Pope. It's probably still too early to start getting excited, but…damn it, I'm excited. It's been well over a decade since our last glimpse into the world of THE MATRIX, and while the two sequels aren't beloved to the degree of the original film, I'm still pumped to return.

"We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana," said Warner Bros. Pictures Group Chairman, Toby Emmerich.  "Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe." Although Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are slated to return, fans have been wonder whether or not Laurence Fishburne will be involved. Variety's Justin Kroll has stated on Twitter that the whereabouts of Morpheus may point to where and when the film is set as he's heard that executives are looking at a variety of young actors to possibly play a younger version of Morpheus. Remember those reports several years ago linking Michael B. Jordan (BLACK PANTHER) to the part? Interesting.
