Showing the enduring power of 1994's THE CROW and the legacy of its star, Brandon Lee, a costume from the original production sold for $25,000 at a recent auction.
"This costume was worn by actor Brandon Lee, during the filming of 1994 American dark fantasy action film The Crow. The costume components comprise of a long black leather coat, black top and black leather trousers. The costume has been heavily distressed for the film with tears and bullet holes."
Brandon Lee would've turned 55 in February of this year but his life was tragically cut short while filming THE CROW. The actor, and son of late martial arts legend Bruce Lee, was accidentally killed on the set of the 1994 movie, days before completion at the age of 28. The movie was finished using CGI, along with stunt doubles, and it was a sleeper hit at the box office upon its release. Years after its theatrical debut, the film has gone on to become a bit of a cult classic that serves as an example of Lee's talent as an actor and a film that stands up on its own despite the tragedy that surrounded it.
What is unclear is exactly who won the bidding war for the costume. That information is being kept quiet but the distressed black shirt, leather pants, and jacket, along with personal items in the pockets, is bound to be a significant prize for fans of the film and of Brandon Lee. You can check out an image of the costume that appears in the listing for the auction below.
In THE CROW, which is based on the James O' Barr comic book of the same name, Eric Draven (Brandon Lee), who is a young rock musician, is killed and then revived to avenge the rape and murder of his fiancée, as well as his own death. While a series of sequels and remake rumors have since followed, THE CROW still remains one of the best films of its kind, and the fact that this costume auctioned off for a pretty sizable penny, shows just how much impact the film has had years after its release.
