In film aficionado circles, David Cronenberg is up there as one of the filmmakers you just need to know.. From DEAD RINGERS to CRASH to VIDEODROME, Cronenberg's name is synonymous with body horror. While his productions have slowed in recent years, his son, Brandon Cronenberg, has been moving up to the big leagues. With buzz circling his film POSSESSOR, horror fans have been waiting with bated breath to see if he will follow in his father's footsteps. The newest trailer for the film just debuted and all signs are pointing to yes!
Directed and written by Brandon Cronenberg, POSSESSOR follows an agent who works for a secretive organization that uses brain-implant technology to inhabit other people's bodies – ultimately driving them to commit assassinations for high-paying clients.
Starring Andrea Riseborough (MANDY, OBLIVION), Gabrielle Graham (THE EXPANSE, LUCKY DAY), Hanneke Talbot (READY OR NOT, TITANS), Matthew Garlick (INCORPORATED, PERCY JACKSON & THE LIGHTNING THIEF), Christopher Abbott (IT COMES AT NIGHT), Rossif Sutherland (RIVER, HYENA ROAD), Tuppence Middleton (THE CURRENT WAR, SENSE8), Sean Bean (GAME OF THRONES, SILENT HILL), Jennifer Jason Leigh (SINGLE WHITE FEMALE, ANOMALISA), and Daniel Park (PACIFIC RIM, 12 MONKEYS), Cronenberg's latest looks to be as bizarre and otherworldly as one might expect considering the filmmaker's lineage. If you ask me, they just don't make thrillers like the used to, but Brandon Cronenberg looks as if he'll be delivering something truly unique with this psychotic and psychedelic mindfuck.
JoBlo's own managing editor and film reviewer to the stars, Chris Bumbray, reviewed POSSESSOR back in January, during the film's Sundance Film Festival screening. In his review, Chris says that Cronenberg's film "deserves to be on the radar of genre fans and gorehounds," and includes "amazing performances" by both Riseborough and Abbott. You can read Bumbray's full review here.
POSSESSOR UNCUT will be making its way to theaters and select drive-ins on October 9th.
