You’ll have to excuse me for never watching the cult classic DROP DEAD FRED as a child. I was too busy watching the collected works of Fellini and Bergman to care about petty North American movies. That’s probably why I have never seen a film by Lucas, Spielberg, Scorsese or Kubrick either.
Finally though, I will get a chance to right my wrongs. Russell Brand is set to star in a remake of DROP DEAD FRED for Universal, in which he’ll play the annoying imaginary friend that tormented Phoebe Cates in the original. Dennis McNicholas (LAND OF THE LOST) will pen the script, which will try and mimic the tone of BEETLEJUICE, by creating a universe built around the concept of imaginary friends. Something tells me this role may equal the best actor Oscar for Brand that everyone in the media has long been predicting.
