Bradley Cooper is everywhere right now. The actor is in the running for an Oscar for his work in David O. Russell’s SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, he has AMERICAN SNIPER (also with Russell) on the way, he’s set to appear opposite Ryan Gosling in THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES later this year, he’s producing and starring in the WWII film DARK INVASION, and there are rumors he’ll be tackling a Lance Armstrong biopic with J.J. Abrams in the near future. Not only that, but Mr. Cooper is no stranger to our beloved genre, having starred in CASE 39 and THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN.
Looks like Cooper has another addition to his already overflowing slate, and this one sounds like it could be a terrifying trip into the darker subject matter that fans of this site enjoy. Deadline is reporting that Warner Brothers has acquired James Renner’s 2012 novel THE MAN FROM PRIMROSE LANE, and will develop it as a star vehicle for Cooper. Cooper will also be producing under his 22nd and Indiana banner.
The story is about a true-crime writer named David Neff who finds himself at the center of a “chain of serial murders” while checking out an incident involving the killing of a recluse known to people in the neighborhood as “the man with a thousand mittens.” But as he digs further and further into the case he discovers a connection between himself and the crimes and “must look outside the parameters of what he believed to be true about time and space” in order to solve the mystery.
Script duties will be handled by Chad Feehan.
Sounds like THE MAN FROM PRIMROSE LANE may contain elements of suspense, horror, mystery and a dash of science fiction. Color me intrigued.
Here’s hoping that Cooper and company deliver something special with this one and that they aren’t afraid to go dark with the material. THE MAN FROM PRIMROSE LANE sounds like it has some real potential to shake the audience.
