Every actor seems to want to step behind the camera at some point and if you’re a big enough star, they might just let you. Deadline is reporting that Bradley Cooper is set to make his feature directorial debut with a remake of A STAR IS BORN. The actor is currently negotiating with Warner Bros but once the deal is done they’re hoping they can also get the three-time Academy Award-nominated actor to star in the film as well.
Cooper's next step would be to find himself a leading lady and according to Deadline, he already has one in mind: Beyonce Knowles. The singer was actually attached to a previous version of the long-in-development film back when Clint Eastwood was behind the camera. Beyond AUSTIN POWERS IN GOLDMEMBER I haven't really seen her in much else, so I can't really speak to her acting ability, but she sure has the pipes for the role. Cooper is currently performing in a stage production of The Elephant Man, but once that wraps up it's expected that he'll focus his attentions on A STAR IS BORN.
This would be the forth incarnation of A STAR IS BORN, which centers on a movie star who helps an aspiring young actress find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral. The film was first remade with Judy Garland and James Mason in 1954, and then again with Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand in 1976. The original with Fredrick March and Janet Gaynor premiered back in 1937. Seems like we were overdue.
