As all of us know by this point in time, there is a CHILD'S PLAY: TV SERIES in development over at SyFy. Supposedly it will be called CHUCKY and it's coming our way via franchise screenwriter Don Mancini and executive producers David Kirschner and Nick Antosca. And today we have word from Charles Lee Ray himself, Brad Dourif that the series is absolutely happening and he thinks it's "pretty good" so far.
Specifically, Dourif says:
Don Mancini's tv series is happening. It’s going to happen. Yes, yes absolutely. We’ve spoken more than once, and absolutely. It’s his baby, he invented it, it came from him, he’s the real source. And he’s managed, on more than one occasion with a shift in the genre to really find an exciting and different way of doing it, and it’s always worked. I think it’s pretty good, and I don’t feel that way about most things. I mean with Chucky, we’re not talking about the deepest level of human nature or anything like that [we both laugh] but it’s great fun. And Don knows exactly the right tone, every time.
The series is going to be closer to the tone of the first two movies in that it will also be going back to the idea at the center of those first two movies: the idea of Chucky targeting children. While the series will be telling a new story with new characters, it does still take place after the events of all seven of the films and will be consistent with that mythology. Brad Dourif will be providing the voice of Chucky and other actors from the films such as Jennifer Tilly and Fiona Dourif may appear on the show. Mancini also just let us know that the show will be hitting a screen near you in 2020.
I know that vague as hell, but hopefully, we get a more concrete release date soon. Stay tuned!
