Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland moving from December 2014 to Summer 2015

While some fans are lamenting the fact that the new STAR WARS will not be premiering during the traditional May release all of the prior films have called home, take solace in knowing that we will still be getting a kick ass fantasy adventure movie that month. After announcing EPISODE VII’s December 2015 release date, Disney also revealed that Brad Bird‘s mysterious TOMORROWLAND starring George Clooney and Hugh Laurie will be moving from December 12, 2014 to May 22, 2015.

While it does mean that we have to wait an additional five months to see what Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof have cooking for us, Disney will be giving the IRON GIANT director a little more time to make sure his original property is perfect. While shooting will be wrapped by then, this gives more time for post-production and the inevitable viral marketing campaign that is to come for the movie.

Not much is known about TOMORROWLAND outside of this plot summary from a press release earlier this year:

Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as “Tomorrowland.”

TOMORROWLAND is going to hit theaters three weeks after THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and a little over a month before ANT-MAN. Pixar’s THE GOOD DINOSAUR and STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will hit during the Holiday season. That will be one hell of a year for Disney.

TOMORROWLAND stars George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy and Thomas Robinson. It not hits theaters on May 22, 2015.
