Boys in the Trees’ Nicholas Verso to direct The Ice Cream Man

A new horror film called THE ICE CREAM MAN is coming our way, but it has nothing to do with last year's THE ICE CREAM TRUCK, nor is it a follow-up to the 1995 cult classic ICE CREAM MAN (pictured), which starred Clint Howard. It is the latest directorial project for Nicholas Verso, director of the Halloween-set Australian coming-of-age film BOYS IN THE TREES.

Written by Justin Powell and David Charbonier, THE ICE CREAM MAN is said to be a "high-concept horror project" that follows

two brothers who are terrorized by a sinister being.

Verso will be directing the film for Covert Media and Broken Road Productions. Covert's Paul Hanson is producing with Broken Road's Todd Garner and Ryan Lewis. Covert's Elissa Friedman, Broken Road's Sean Robins, and Sasha Shapiro and Anton Lessine of Media Content Capital serve as executive producers.

Hanson had this to say about the project:

Nick is a true visionary when it comes to crafting genre films, handsomely evidenced by the awards and acclaim received in recent years. He is a proven, unique voice and we are thrilled that Justin and David’s outstanding, clever and terrifying script is in a master’s hands."

Lewis added,

When we're done with this film, parents will think twice before letting their kids chase after that familiar jingle when summer comes around again."

I'm sure the well-to-do ice cream truck drivers out there will be happy to hear that. But, as the existence of the other ICE CREAM movies mentioned proves, there has been a certain level of distrust directed toward ice cream men for a long time. I've seen it first-hand, as one of my grandmothers was convinced that the ice cream man in her neighborhood was selling drugs out of his truck.

I assume the Ice Cream Man in Verso's film will be doing even worse.
