Boyle does 28 Months?

I was blown away when I first saw
28
DAYS LATER
; I went into the theatre with very low expectations and
left with a new found love for the zombie genre. (I know it’s not really
zombies, but it did re-ignite the genre, so for arguments sake let’s pretend
they are the undead.) However I was pretty disappointed with

28 WEEKS LATER
, the less than stellar sequel that was released
earlier this year.

I will admit that I really dug the beginning of

28 WEEKS
, and wasn’t at all surprised to find that Danny Boyle had
dipped his hand back into the franchise to work as the second unit director,
which just happened to be responsible for the opening of the film. It was
awesome and I wish that he could have done the entire film. Well apparently I
may get that wish because it seems that Boyle has expressed interest in doing
28 MONTHS LATER
.

Boyle recently spoke with

MTV
about his latest sci-fi thriller

SUNSHINE
(Which is supposed to absolutely phenomenal!), and during
said interview the following things were said about the pseudo-zombie franchise.

MTV: But
there must be some studio enthusiasm for another “28 Days” sequel — “28 Years
Later,” maybe?

Boyle:
There is an idea for the next one, something which would move [the story] on.
I’ve got to think about it, whether it’s right or not.

MTV: Would
you actually go back and direct it this time?

Boyle:
Well, I didn’t want to do the second one, because I was involved in “Sunshine.”
But I went out and I helped them [with “28 Weeks Later”]. I did some second-unit
shooting on it. And I really enjoyed it, actually. There’s something about doing
something trashy that’s great. Where basically you just come in the door and you
just kill them. That was rather refreshing.

Could it be true? Last I heard
Fox
Atomic
had closed the door on horror for the time being, so wha-choo
talkin’ about Boyle? I would prefer that Boyle move on to another separate
project, but if they are going to make another in the series, he’s definitely
the guy I would want to do it.

So what think all of you? Outside of people not wanting a
sequel because it’s a sequel, would anyone else be interested in seeing Boyle
tackle these rage-a-holics one last time and possibly closing the franchise for
good? Spit some bullets below and let’s hear ya!

Here’s what I want to tackle!
