Numbers are beginning to trickle in for this post Thanksgiving weekend and as expected Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is coming in first with a fourth weekend take around $15 million. With nearly $700 million made at the worldwide box office, we can officially put Wakanda in the win column for Marvel as that puts it well over the projected break even point for the film. It will be interesting to see where the franchise goes from here.
Second place appears to be the new Christmas Classic Violent Night which pulled in decent numbers during its Thursday preview showings with around $1.1 million. Those numbers are slightly less than February’s Jackass Forever ($1.6 million previews, $23.1 million weekend) but slightly above last month’s The Menu ($1 million previews, $9 million weekend). With mostly solid reviews (including our own), the film looks to have a weekend opening around $12 million, slightly off my $14 million prediction, but you never know, it could still get there!
Third place looks to be a large drop for Disney’s already massive bomb Strange World with just a projected $4.4 million weekend followed by the adult skewing films The Menu (estimated $3.6 million) and Devotion (estimated $2.8 million).
The Fathom Events release of I Heard The Bells looks to be doing pretty good business having pulled in $767,012 on Thursday. I have learned my lesson and never underestimate these specialty releases. While some people want to go watch Santa Claus take on a bunch of ruthless criminals, others like to learn the true stories of how their favorite Christmas carols came to be!
Right now we are in that lull at the box office as everyone awaits the sequel to the highest grossing film of all time: Avatar: The Way of Water.
Let us know what’s worth seeing in the comments section and don’t forget to check back tomorrow when we have a full run down of this weekend’s box office.
