Saturday numbers are beginning to roll in, and they are looking in line with our predictions from Thursday.
Leading the pack is the new R-rated Horror film Barbarian with a Friday haul of $3.8 Million on its way to around $9 million for the weekend. It is possible this one can hit double digits if crowds turn out tonight, however with a C+ Cinemacscore and a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, it appears this one is having quite the divide between audiences and critics.
The other new releases for the weekend are the Hindi language Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, which saw a $1.9 Million Friday and is expected to finish the weekend just shy of $5 Million. This is another case of a studio (in this case, Disney’s Star Studios) picking the right time to launch a film aimed at a niche audience stateside. With over 8000 screens worldwide, this marks the widest release ever for an Indian film.
Sneaking into the Top Ten this weekend is the Fathom release of Lifemark. This Kirk Cameron faith-based film saw $855,000 on Friday and is expected to finish the weekend with a shade over $2 Million. That is a total that would normally put you far away from the Top ten, but with his weekend tracking to be the second lowest of the year behind January 28, a shade over $2.2 may be all you need to get in there.
The remainder of the Top Ten will be filled in with the same titles we have been seeing for the past few months: your Top Gun: Maverick’s; your Bullet Train’s; a sprinkle of DC’s League of Super Pets; perhaps you may catch a Beast alongside summer’s surprise hit Where The Crawdad’s Sing.
Don’t forget to check back tomorrow when we give a full rundown of this weekend’s numbers. Let us know in the comments if you saw any of these films and if they are actually worth going to the theaters for!
