Alright, confession time – despite my love for Frank Grillo, I'll admit that I haven't made much of an effort to dive all that deeply into Boss Level; I knew that it dealt with time loops and also starred Mel Gibson, but that was about it. You were a damn fool, Kevin, a damn fool! A new trailer has been released that shows off just how much fun the action-packed Boss Level appears to be – Sword fights, gun battles, explosions, and more time loop deaths than I know what to do with, all featuring the considerable talents of Frank Grillo, Mel Gibson, Michelle Yeoh, and Naomi Watts. Sign me up!
Joe Carnahan directed Boss Level and also co-wrote the script alongside Chris & Eddie Borey. As you might be able to tell from the trailer, the film is a bit of a genre mash-up, and Grillo told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month that Boss Level is "a full-blown action movie, it's funny, and then it becomes a bit dramatic. You don't get bored at any time." Grillo added that the film also gave him the chance to dip into comedy. "I get to be kind of funny instead of the guy who kills everybody and dies at the end," Grillo said.
The official synopsis for Boss Level:
Trapped in a time loop that constantly repeats the day of his murder, former special forces agent Roy Pulver (Frank Grillo) uncovers clues about a secret government project that could unlock the mystery behind his untimely death. In a race against the clock, Pulver must hunt down Colonel Ventor (Mel Gibson), the powerful head of the government program, while outrunning skilled ruthless assassins determined to keep him from the truth in order to break out of the loop, save his ex-wife (Naomi Watts) and live once again for tomorrow.
Boss Level will debut on Hulu on March 5, 2021.
