I'm sorry, parents, but The Boss Baby: Family Business is being pushed back from March 26, 2021, to September 17, 2021. Now, while you might not be heart-broken by this development, I'd imagine that your kids will be upset, and that doesn't bode well for anyone. If you're in the mood to point your finger, you can aim that digit squarely at the novel coronavirus. That's right, good old coronavirus: Still screwing things up for humankind, even in 2021.
Here's the official synopsis for The Boss Baby: Family Business, per Dreamworks Animation:
Tim (James Marsden) and his super-mom wife Carol (Eva Longoria) live in the suburbs with their super-smart 7-year-old daughter Tabitha (Ariana Greenblatt), and super-cute new infant Tina (Amy Sedaris). Tabitha, who’s at the top of her class at the prestigious Acorn Center for Advanced Childhood, idolizes her Uncle Ted (Alec Baldwin) and wants to become like him, but Tim worries that she’s working too hard and is missing out on a normal childhood.
When baby Tina reveals that she’s—ta-da!—a top-secret agent for BabyCorp on a mission to uncover the dark secrets behind Tabitha’s school and its mysterious founder, Dr. Armstrong (Jeff Goldblum), it will reunite the Templeton brothers in unexpected ways, lead them to re-evaluate the meaning of family and discover what truly matters.
In addition to Dreamworks' Boss Baby sequel being put down for a long nap before its theatrical release, the studio also unset the release of their other animated feature, Bad Guys, which was supposed to open in September. In the aforementioned animated film directed by Pierre Perifel, Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark, and Ms. Tarantula hatch a plot to pull off the ultimate heist. Bad Guys is expected to receive a new date in the coming weeks.
Welp, there you have it, folks. It's going to be a while until Dreamworks' Boss Baby sequel comes toddling into theaters. In the meantime, be sure to keep your copy of the original film on standby. You know, for those times when you absolutely need your Boss Baby fix. Oh, c'mon, there's no shame in it. We've all been there.
