Bosch fans, rejoice! Amazon‘s universe, inspired by the work of best-selling author Michael Connolly, is expanding with two Bosch spinoffs. The first project is an Untitled J. Edgar spinoff, following Harry Bosch’s former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, who accepts an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami. In this new locale, Edgar explores a gorgeous metropolis while balancing his life with the criminal element of the dreamy area. It’s rather inspiring to be in a new place until his past comes back to haunt him, making his new assignment more difficult than anticipated. According to Deadline, Jamie Hector, who plays Detective Jerry Edgar on Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, is in talks to reprise his role.
There’s also an Untitled Renee Ballard project in development. Detective Renee Ballard is in charge of the LAPD’s cold case sector. In addition to bringing dormant cases to a conclusion (for better or worse), Detective Renee Ballard is determined to restore the LAPD’s image while mending bridges with the community they help protect. While working the night shift, playfully referred to as “the late show,” Detective Ballard learned much from her friend and mentor, Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver). Ballard is a woman on her way up the LAPD ladder and is not afraid to get her hands dirty.
The newest trend in entertainment is building universes out of properties with beloved characters to spare. The Bosch spinoffs are the latest in many projects on the move, including expansions for Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, Showtime’s Billions, The Continental (John Wick), Netflix’s The Terminal List, and more.
You might not recall, but Bosch was Amazon’s first drama series. The show centered around Welliver’s Harry Bosch was seven seasons deep when Amazon canceled it to make way for Bosch: Legacy. The spinoff serves as an eighth season for the long-running series and introduces new characters and plots to bring the franchise forward.
