Attention, Vault Hunters! Kevin Hart is officially about to catch a ride as Roland for Eli Roth's adaptation of Borderlands, based on the bestselling first-person, loot-based shooter from developer Gearbox Software and publisher 2K.

The role is said to be of a more serious nature for Hart, who is typically known for his comedic chops. Roland is a Soldier class character who originally hails from the planet Promethea and is a former soldier of the Crimson Lance, the highly trained private military of the Atlas corporation. He is proficient with all weapons, although he prefers shotguns and combat rifles. (via Borderland Wiki) The deal has remained in the works for quite some time, and now Hart is locked and loaded for the ambitious adaptation.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin,” said Roth in a statement. Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland.”

"Kevin has been behind some of the world's biggest blockbusters, and our source material is inspired by one of the world's best-selling video games. We love the way our filmmaking team has adapted this story and we couldn't be in better creative hands," added Nathan Kahane, President of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

Eli Roth is directing Borderlands from a script by Emmy-winning Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin. The film also stars Cate Blanchett as Lilith. As a "Siren" of the Borderlands, Lilith comes equipped with a silver tongue, an attitude to match, and a longing to blow holes in the faces of every enemy she encounters. She also uses her superhuman powers to gain an edge over those who stand in her way. In other words, step aside.

Avi Arad and Ari Arad are producing Borderlands via their Arad Productions studio, with Erik Feig producing through Picturestart. Randy Pitchford, executive producer of the Borderlands video game franchise and founder of the Gearbox Entertainment Company, and Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive, will executive produce.
