BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM debuted on Amazon Prime on Friday, and from the sounds of things, was a big success for the streaming service. The film follows Borat Sagdiyev (Cohen), the now disgraced Kazakhstani journalist who must return to America amid the insanity of the 2020 elections and the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver his daughter (Maria Bakalova) as a gift to Vice President Mike Pence.
Those who have seen the film know that Sacha Baron Cohen and Maria Bakalova, who stole the show as Borat's daughter, put themselves into some potentially dangerous situations, one of which found Cohen posing as a country singer leading the crowd of a March For Our Rights rally in a racist song. Although the film doesn't show it, word soon spread that "Country Steve" was in fact Sacha Baron Cohen, which prompted an aggressive reaction from members of the audience. While speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Cohen explained that several people involved with Black Lives Matter had also gone undercover at the rally, and it was they who realized who the performer on stage really was. The word got out and people began storming the stage, forcing Cohen and company to flee to their van where the actor even had to hold the door shut to stop people from getting in. Check out the footage below.

When asked by Stephen Colbert if that sort of thing happened often, Cohen said, "It’s fairly rare, I mean it happens occasionally. This was the first movie where I’ve had to wear a bulletproof vest. One of the guys who stormed the stage went for his pistol… and luckily enough there was a very brave guard who actually grabbed his hand, leaned in and said, 'It’s not worth it, buddy.'" BORAT SUBSEQUENT MOVIEFILM is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, so be sure to check out a review from our own Matt Rooney.
