Book Club 2 with Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen starts production

Pack your clothes, toiletries, and a few good novels because the cast of 2018’s Book Club is going to Italy. Focus Features, Endeavor Content, and Makeready have announced that production for Book Club 2 is in full swing. Titled Book Club 2: The Next Chapter, the sequel reunites Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen for a European adventure.

The cast also features Andy Garcia, Don Johnson, and Craig T. Nelson, who appeared in the first film. Newcomers to Book Club 2 include Giancarlo Giannini, Hugh Quarshie, and Vincent Riotta. Bill Holderman and Erin Simms wrote the script, with Holderman returning as director. The pair will also produce.

According to the official description, the club’s vacation goes off the rails after secrets are revealed, sending them on a “once-in-a-lifetime cross-country adventure.” Presumably, vistas will be enjoyed, pasta and vino will be consumed, and lessons will be learned. Perhaps books will enter into all of this too.

In 2018’s Book Club, four lifelong friends have changed their lives after reading 50 Shades of Grey in their monthly book club. The original film also stars Richard Dreyfus, Alicia Silverstone, Wallace Shawn, and Ed Begley Jr.

If Covid has kept you from traveling to foreign lands, you might as well enjoy a European vacation with the cast of Book Club 2. I’m optimistic the movie will feature plenty of sightseeing, sampling of delicious dishes, and enough wine to turn any book discussion into an insightful investigation into literature.
