For those of you who enjoyed the rich dialogue and characters of BONE TOMAHAWK, writer S. Craig Zahler has been chosen to pen a reboot of the PUPPET MASTER franchise entitled, PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH. As Deadline states, "The new take centers on a recently divorced young man who discovers a mint condition Blade doll in his deceased brother’s closet and plans to sell the toy at a convention in Oregon celebrating the 30th anniversary of the infamous Toulon Murders. All hell breaks loose at the Postville Lodge during the auction when a strange force animates all of the various puppets throughout the convention as they go on a bloody killing spree." No director has been set to helm THE LITTLEST REICH yet.
While I don't really have any great love for the 1989 PUPPET MASTER flick, I did love Zahler's work on BONE TOMAHAWK. The man knows how to write characters you can invest in! I'm not sure if that's an approach he'll take for THE LITTLEST REICH, as it sounds pretty campy right off the bat, but his involvement DOES make me want to give this flick a shot. Any chance we can get Kurt Russell to voice a little puppet?
