Bobby Farrelly reveals the plot for the still possible Dumb and Dumber sequel

The DUMB AND DUMBER sequel is beginning to imitate GHOSTBUSTERS 3. There has been so much back and forth that at this point most people just want it to be over so everyone can move on. Both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels publicly dropped out of the project a few months ago, but according to Bobby Farrelly, everyone is back on board.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Farrelly confirmed that both Carrey and Daniels are back in and ready to shoot as soon as this fall, once THE NEWSROOM finishes shooting for the season. The script is complete and the only remaining hurdle is finding a common time for everyone to shoot. On top of that news, Farrelly revealed the first plot details for the film.

“I can tell you that there is no growth out of either one of them and it’s 20 years later. What is funny about the original is that they’re grown men who are complete losers and when the studio came to us about a sequel, we were like, ‘Loads of kids are losers and they’re dumb.’ We didn’t see any value in the sequel so we backed out of it, but now these guys are in regular life and they’re still basically children at heart.

“The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he’s having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys.”

So there you have it. I would not be surprised if there was a subplot involving Harry and Lloyd with a black market organ ring. But, the question I have is who will join the stars as their potential progeny? Will they cast a recognized young actor (Josh Hutcherson, maybe?) or will they keep the focus squarely on the pumpkin pie hair-cutted freak and the wild haired blonde idiot?

Farrelly says hopes are for a release in the fall of 2013, so stay tuned for more developments.
