One of my favorite teen horror movies from the '90s is director Andrew Fleming's THE CRAFT starring Fairuza Balk, Robin Tunney, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True. We've been hearing for a while now that there is a remake/reboot in the works and today we have further confirmation that it is, in fact, headed our way soon as Production Weekly just spilled the beans that the reboot is set to be produced by none other than Blumhouse with director Zoe Lister-Jones (BAND AID) taking the helm.
The original followed Robin Tunney's character Sarah who
After transferring to a Los Angeles high school, finds that her telekinetic gift appeals to a group of three wannabe witches, who happen to be seeking a fourth member for their rituals. Bonnie (Campbell), Rochelle (True) and Nancy (Balk), like Sarah herself, all have troubled backgrounds, which combined with their nascent powers lead to dangerous consequences. When a minor spell causes a fellow student to lose her hair, the girls grow power-mad.
Production Weekly says the synopsis of this remake goes like this:
A remake of the 1996 supernatural teen thriller. When starting at a new school, Hannah befriends Tabby, Lourdes, and Frankie & quickly becomes the fourth member of their clique. Hannah soon learns that she somehow brings a great power to the quartet.
Lister-Jones (BAND AID) will direct Blumhouse's THE CRAFT from a script she's writing along with Daniel Casey (9 FAST 9 FURIOUS). Jason Blum is producing and he will be joined in his duties by the likes of Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher. Blumhouse's THE CRAFT is set to start shooting in July. The last we heard on this remake was that HONEYMOON director Leigh Janek was set to take the helm from a script by the above-mentioned Daniel Casey (10 CLOVERFIELD LANE) and Phil Graziadei. Not sure what happened to that version but I bet FEAR STREET has something to do with it.
