When I think back on the 1996 cult favorite THE CRAFT (which you can watch HERE), I remember it as a PG-13. Nothing about it strikes me as being deserving of an R, but that is what the ratings board gave it. THE CRAFT was rated R for "some terror and violence, and for brief language". I know that fans usually aren't very happy when a sequel has a softer rating than its predecessor(s), so I'm sure some will be disappointed to hear that Blumhouse's "next generation" sequel THE CRAFT: LEGACY has earned a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association.
The new film got its PG-13 for "thematic elements, crude and sexual content, language and brief drug material". So compared to the original, it looks like the terror and violence has been replaced by drugs and sexual content. In that case, it's surprising that the ratings board found this to be more suitable for a younger audience.
THE CRAFT: LEGACY is getting a PVOD release in North America on October 28th.
Written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones, LEGACY has the following synopsis:
When starting at a new school, Hannah befriends Tabby, Lourdes, and Frankie & quickly becomes the fourth member of their clique. Hannah soon learns that she somehow brings a great power to the quartet.
Cailee Spaeny, Gideon Adlon, Lovie Simone, Zoey Luna, Nicholas Galitzine, Michelle Monaghan, Julian Grey, and David Duchovny star.
