BLUMHOUSE'S TRUTH OR DARE and its goofy looking possessed characters are coming soon to home video, but the version coming to DVD and Blu-ray isn't the PG-13 cut that played in theatres. It's an Unrated Director's Cut that is said to feature "even more gore and intensity".
Directed by Jeff Wadlow from a screenplay he wrote with Chris Roach, Jillian Jacobs, and Michael Reisz, BLUMHOUSE'S TRUTH OR DARE has the following synopsis:
When a group of friends set out to enjoy their final spring break together, a harmless game of "Truth or Dare" turns deadly when someone—or something—begins to punish those who tell a lie—or refuse the dare.
The announcement of the DVD/Blu release promises that "The children's game will never be the same after fans dare to watch the never before seen Unrated Director's Cut."
The film stars Lucy Hale, Tyler Posey, Violett Beane, Sophia Taylor Ali, Nolan Gerard Funk, Hayden Szeto, and Aurora Perrineau.
I won't be able to evaluate the differences between the PG-13 and Unrated cuts, since I didn't dare to go see BLUMHOUSE'S TRUTH OR DARE when it was in theatres. Going by JimmyO's 5/10 review, I didn't think I would miss a whole lot by not seeing it on the big screen, but I do intend to watch it on my home screen.
The film's Digital release (when it will also be available through the all-new digital movie app MOVIES ANYWHERE) is set for July 3rd. The DVD, Blu-ray, and On Demand release will follow on July 17th.
